Landry Shamet and Shake Milton play

There’s not many takeaways for the Philadelphia 76ers rookies in a relatively quiet week, but despite that, two of the rookies still made an impact.

This past week was relatively slow compared to the previous rookie report. Surely the disappointing loss to the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers as well as Joel Embiid being ranked in FanSided’s Fandom 250 are impressive takeaways. There wasn’t much substance regarding the club’s rookies, with the exception of Landry Shamet and Shake Milton.

16th pick, 2018

Since the last rookie report, there hasn’t been any update on Zhaire Smith‘s progress or timeline of when he’s suppose to start working with the Delaware Blue Coats. Hopefully, that information is provided in the near future.

26th pick, 2018

It was certainly not a great week for Landry Shamet. The late first round pick only had one good game this past week and that was against the Washington Wizards, where he had 12 points on 50 percent shooting from the 3-point line. The other two games he played in, he shot poorly from the field. While it wasn’t a good week for the combo guard, he was only one of two rookies to see any floor action at all this past week.

It wasn’t until around the mid-week mark that there was news surrounding Jonah Bolden and his injured leg. Bolden had been cleared to play since before the Sixers away game against the Toronto Raptors, according to Serena Winters of NBCSPhilly. It’s great that he’s healthy, since he provides the team with much needed depth. It should be noted that he still hasn’t made a return to the floor with the 76ers or Blue Coats, so his stats haven’t changed for either.

54th pick, 2018

Shake Milton continues to put up big numbers in the G-League. The wing player played in two games for the Blue Coats, in which he scored 22 points and a new G-League career high of 35 points. With all of these impressive games with Delaware this G-League season, general manager (GM) Elton Brand needs to start considering converting Milton’s two-way contract into a regular NBA deal.

Next: Embiid’s recent struggles signal need for extra rest

Milton going off for the Blue Coats and Landry Shamet continuing to get consistent playing time with the Philadelphia 76ers are the two biggest takeaways for the Sixers rookies this past week. While Bolden becoming healthy is a positive piece of news, it appears that it had little impact due to when his health update was announced and the lack of playing that occurred after that announcement.
